We've just spent a wonderful week on the Isle of Skye. We've come back feeling truly inspired by this wilderness which has left me feeling creative and full of ideas for upcoming boxes! We are of course feeling absolutely exhausted by our non-stop adventures but we loved every minute.
If you're looking for an adventure filled trip that immerses you in nature and spectacular scenery then Skye is the place to visit. Here are some of our favourite places:
This is such an exciting and unusual beach to visit. We loved looking at all of the shapes and colours in the coral sands, as well as finding interesting shells of all shapes and sizes. The walk to the beach, along the coast and into the hills over-looking the shore is really pleasant and not too difficult for younger children too. We took lots of photos and will definitely be creating some lovely art inspired by the shapes and stunning colours here.
This spectacular place is a great place to visit with older children and more competent walkers. There are lots of steep steps and some steep cliff tops meaning that we couldn't relax during some points of this walk, and had to put a lot of emphasis on 'sensible walking', hand-holding and no running. We were absolutely fine and stuck to the clear paths, having a really enjoyable afternoon. The shape of the landscape was fascinating and we had some interesting things to talk about along the way, including the gravity-defying sheep! The amount of steps we completed meant that we got to enjoy some delicious guilt-free cake too.
This is a lovely walk to do with children. It offered beautiful and unusual scenery, covering only a short distance for smaller legs. The Easter Bunny left some small chocolate eggs here for us to find too which was a brilliant bonus! The Easter bunny hid eggs on a lot of our walks after Easter Sunday, which really helped us to keep motivated when we were tired! Read all about the Money Fairy who has helped us with some of our other adventures.
We couldn't complete the whole walk as it wasn't suitable terrain for a 6 year old, however we managed a lovely short walk that took in the epic scenery here. We found a lovely picnic spot, and visited again from the other side of the mountains on a seperate day. At times it can be off-putting to visit places with young children, if you're not sure whether it will be suitable terrain; We found it easier to travel to more than one place on this day and do a 'taster walk' of these mountains. We create mountain pictures as one of the activities in our Sunset Skies box.
An Coran (Dinosaur Beach)
Unfortunately the tide was in too far to see the famous dinosaur footprints at An Coran. However it was still very exciting to walk in the steps of Dinosaurs on this black sand beach. A beach means guaranteed fun for us; Rockpools to explore, skimming stones into the sea and running away from the waves! We absolutely love a day at the beach and explore this as a creative theme in our A Day at the Beach box.
This is a great walk to do with children. There are lots of enchanting pools and waterfalls surrounded by the magestic mountains. If you're lucky, you might catch a glipse of a fairy having a splash around too! As is the case on all of our walks, we needed an endless supply of snacks. Our visit here and Fairy Glen have definitely inspired us to use a bit of magic in our future boxes!
Boat Trip to Loch Coruisk from Elgol
We loved every minute of our boat trip to Loch Coruisk in the Cullen Mountains. It was a much more relaxed and easier way to experience these mountains with a child. We listened to fascinating historical tales, spotted seals and had a go at steering the boat too. We highly recommend a trip with the Misty Isles boat trips. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and can make a good cuppa too!
Talisker Bay
Spring time has definitely arrived and even as northernly as Skye there were lots of daffodlils and baby animals around to greet us. We saw lots of sheep and their new born lambs, along with deer, Highland Cows, goats and even pigs at our campsite! Talisker Bay is home to a waterfall on the beach which shone rainbow colours for us! Zoom in on the photo and you will see the colours. We passed a farm full of Peacocks on the walk to the beach and saw the farmer feed the sheep too. We treated ourselves to some delicious lunch and cakes at the nearby Cafe Cuil too.
If you're feeling inspired by this article and can't get to any of these places for an adventure, we recommend using some of our past boxes to give you some outdoors vibes whilst creating arts, crafts and keepsakes; Be inspired by A Day at The Beach, Discover Enchanted Gardens, and create mountainous landscapes with our Sunset Skies boxes. Already inspired by the baby animals that are born at this time of year, our latest box includes everything you need to make arts and crafts inspired by Spring landscapes, bunnies, pigs and sheep.
We would love to hear about your adventures and how they have inspired you to get creative too. Please email your photos to info@rainbowtreebox.com or tag us in your social media photos, using the hashtag #rainbowtreebox.
