Here's an easy craft to try out at home. This is a great way to practice cutting out shapes and practicing how to use scissors safely.* It is also a great way to teach children about using eco-friendly materials and making decisions that will help our environment.
You will need:
• Paints
• Paint Brush
• Glue
• Egg Carton
• Paint pallet or plate
• Cup of water (A clean empty yogurt pot will work!)
1. Carefully cut out the egg-carton cup segments and trim down the edges to create smooth shells for your turtles.
2. Leave the long strip attached and use this to attach your turtles heads to peep out of their shells.
3. Cut out scrap pieces of the egg carton lid to create heads, legs and a tail for your turtles. You can cut these out individually , or you can create a base shape with legs and a tail to stick your shell on top.
4. Paint your turtle parts and let them dry before you start to assemble and stick your turtles together.
5. We used PVA glue to attach the head, legs and tail to the shell. You’ll need to hold them in place for a few minutes so that the glue can begin to dry, or you can use some tape to add strength to where the pieces are glued together.
6. Don’t forget to add details to your shell and face, using paints and pens. Stick on Googly eyes to finish them off.
