Create nature pattern rubbings
Place paper on top of a natural object, such as a leaf or a piece of tree bark, and use the side of a wax crayon to gently rub over the top of the paper. The wax will collect on top of the patterns that stick out leaving you with a natural pattern on your paper.
Wax Resist Painting
Draw a picture or patterns onto some paper with wax crayons.
Paint over the top of the picture with water colour paints. The pattern or pictures will not absorb the paint and will resist the paint sitting on top. This is a good way to colour the background to a crayon drawing.
You can mix water with washable poster paints too to create a thin paint that will resit on wax crayon.
Wax shavings
You can create colourful wax shavings by using a pencil sharpener with your crayon. Collect the shavings in a tray and put them into a pot to use.
You can sprinkle the shavings over the top of PVA glue to create a textured collage or to add texture to an existing picture.
If the weather is hot outside, the wax shavings will melt in the sun onto your paper!
