Did you know our boxes are designed to help your child's learning and development?
Our chief box designer is a Qualified Teacher and uses her knowledge and experience to come up with ideas that explore their sense and disover and develop new skills.
Our boxes comes with a set of Idea and Inspiration Sheets for each of the activities included; At the top of each sheet you will notice a set of symbols, each of which relates to a specific sense or skill that is explored within the activity.
The table below defines each of these senses and skills in more detail.
Senses & Mindfulness
Focus and Concentration: Careful observation and paying attention to details when being creative will train your brain to concentrate.
Listening Skills: Actively listen out for different sounds in the woodlands. Think about what is making the sound to give you ideas for your artwork.
Observational Skills: Pay close attention to small details and make connections between objects to improve your artwork. Look at shapes and patterns.
Touch and Texture: Explore and feel different objects. Create ‘the look’ of texture when layering papers and different paint marks.
Relax and feel good: Feel a sense of achievement with every activity you do. Arts and crafts are relaxing. When you are relaxed you feel better.
Smell: Your sense of smell is linked to your memory and emotions. Use your sense of smell in the woodlands to help you build a detailed picture.
Skills
Fine-Motor Skills: Paint in different ways, model with clay and squeeze your glue. Strengthen the muscles in your hands and fingers developing more control.
Mark-making: Carving clay, finger printing, drawing and painting. Practice making patterns, lines, textures and shapes.
Gross-Motor Skills: You will make bigger movements that use your whole body when you walk in the woodlands. Bend and reach to collect natural items.
Hand-Eye Co-ordination: Layer shapes, roll clay and mix paints. Use your hands and eyes together to improve control in your artwork and handwriting.
